Toronto Blue Jays

Since I’m going by order of 2015 playoff ranking, and alternating AL and NL, this week’s team is the Toronto Blue Jays…

The Blue Jays were started as an American League expansion team in 1977, and their name was chosen from a fan contest entry by their majority owner, Labatt Breweries (who conveniently produced a brand known as Labatt Blue!) The Jays play in the shadow of the CN Tower at Rogers Centre, formerly known as the SkyDome, which is the first stadium with a fully retractable motorized roof.

The Blue Jays have two World Series titles to their name, in 1992 and 1993, but nearly made it to the big game in 2015. One of my favorite players, R A. Dickey joined the team since the 2013 season, right after his Cy Young (essentially the ‘best pitcher award’) win with the Mets in 2012. Dickey is the only knuckleball pitcher in the majors right now, and, when he’s got his stuff, is endlessly entertaining to watch.

I’m starting with a few simple pieces from Toronto-based designers, in the team colors. The pencil skirt, from a company that custom makes them to size, is a bit wintery, but mixed in with the wedge sandals, I feel it’s borderline acceptable for a warmer spring game. I also added the cap to the outfit for a game-time look – with a ponytail, it’d be a nice sporty/preppy addition!
